What Is EMDR—and How Can It Help You Heal?
If you’ve been carrying the weight of trauma, painful memories, or long-held negative beliefs about yourself, it may feel like you’re stuck in a cycle you can’t escape. No matter how hard you try to “move on,” the past keeps showing up—in your thoughts, in your relationships, and in your body. This is where EMDR can create real, lasting change.
Break Free From the Past
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a highly effective, research-backed therapy that helps your brain heal from trauma in ways traditional talk therapy often can’t. Trauma isn’t just a memory—it becomes stored in your nervous system, keeping you in patterns of overwhelm, fear, anxiety, shame, or emotional numbness.
EMDR works by helping your brain reprocess these painful experiences so they no longer hold the same emotional charge. Instead of feeling triggered or stuck, you can finally feel grounded, safe, and free.
How EMDR Works
During an EMDR session, I guide you through a structured process using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, gentle tapping, or sound). This activates your brain’s natural healing system, allowing you to process trauma in a safe, contained, and effective way.
It’s like taking a memory that once felt unbearable and transforming it into something you can remember without reliving.
Who Can Benefit From EMDR?
EMDR is especially helpful if you’ve experienced:
Childhood trauma or emotional neglect
Relationship wounds or attachment injuries
Toxic or abusive relationships
Anxiety, panic, or chronic overwhelm
Shame, self-doubt, or a harsh inner critic
Grief, loss, or painful life transitions
EMDR can help you:
✔ Stop reliving distressing memories
✔ Release shame, fear, and self-blame
✔ Feel safer in your body and in your relationships
✔ Reduce anxiety and emotional reactivity
✔ Rebuild your confidence, self-worth, and sense of empowerment
You Don’t Have to Stay Stuck
One of the strengths of EMDR is that you don’t have to talk about your trauma in detail for it to work. Your brain already knows what hurts—EMDR simply gives it the tools to heal without re-traumatizing you.
If you’ve tried other forms of therapy and still feel stuck, EMDR may be the breakthrough you’ve been searching for.Healing is possible, and you don’t have to do it alone.

What to Expect in EMDR Therapy
EMDR follows a structured 8-phase treatment model designed to support safety, clarity, and deep healing. Here’s a gentle overview of what the process looks like:
1. History Taking
We begin by exploring your history, understanding your symptoms, and assessing your readiness for EMDR. This helps us determine whether EMDR is the right approach for your healing.
2. Preparation
We build a strong therapeutic relationship and develop the grounding, resourcing, and regulation skills you’ll use throughout the EMDR process. My goal is to ensure you feel safe, supported, and confident before we move forward.
3. Assessment
Together, we identify your goals and create a personalized treatment plan. We also outline the target memories, experiences, or beliefs that continue to affect you today.
4. Desensitization
This is where reprocessing begins. Using bilateral stimulation, we work through the targeted memories in a safe, guided way so they become less distressing and emotionally charged.
5. Installation
We strengthen and “install” positive, adaptive beliefs to support new patterns of thinking, feeling, and responding in your daily life.
6. Body Scan
We check in with your body to ensure there are no lingering sensations or tension tied to the memory. This helps confirm that the trauma has been fully processed on a physiological level.
7. Closure
At the end of each session, we ensure you feel grounded and stabilized. If a memory has not been fully processed yet, you’ll use the skills and positive beliefs we’ve developed to stay regulated between sessions.
8. Reevaluation
In the next session, we review your progress, assess remaining symptoms, and determine whether additional targets need to be processed or if you’re ready to move toward completion.
This structured, supportive process allows your brain and body to heal at a pace that feels safe and empowering.
If you’re ready to begin your EMDR journey, I’m here to support you every step of the way.

Everyone is different. If it is a single event it can be reprocessed faster and might only need 8-10 sessions. A lot of us have more than just one traumatic event which can make the reprocessing longer.
