‍EMDR Therapy — Healing That Goes Deeper Than Words

Some things can't be healed by talking alone.

If you've spent years in therapy processing the same memories, the same patterns, the same pain — and still feel stuck in your body, your nervous system, your gut — I want you to know that's not a reflection of how hard you've tried. It's a reflection of what that pain needs in order to truly heal.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most well-researched, effective therapies available for trauma — and it works differently than anything you've probably tried before.

How EMDR Works

Our brains are designed to process and integrate difficult experiences — but sometimes, when something is too painful or too shocking, that process gets interrupted. The memory gets stored in a fragmented, unprocessed way. Which is why a smell, a sound, a look from someone can suddenly pull you right back into how you felt then — even decades later.

EMDR works by gently returning to those stored memories while engaging bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements, tapping, or sound). This activates your brain's natural healing ability and allows it to finally process and integrate what got stuck — so the memory can be remembered without being re-lived.

It is not about erasing the past. It's about taking away its power over your present.

What EMDR Can Help With

  • Single-event trauma (accidents, assaults, loss)

  • Complex or developmental trauma (childhood abuse, neglect, instability)

  • PTSD and trauma-related symptoms

  • Anxiety, phobias, and panic

  • Negative core beliefs ('I'm not good enough,' 'I'm not safe,' 'I can't trust anyone')

  • Grief and loss

  • Performance anxiety

  • Relationship patterns rooted in past experiences

What EMDR Sessions Feel Like

I want to be clear: you are in control of this process every step of the way. We move at your pace. Before we begin any reprocessing, we spend time building your internal resources — tools to help you feel grounded, safe, and regulated. You'll never be pushed into something before you're ready.

Many clients describe EMDR as surprisingly gentle. Some are moved by how quickly things shift — memories that used to bring tears or panic becoming something they can hold with steadiness, even compassion.

If you've tried traditional talk therapy and felt like you were going in circles, EMDR might be what your healing has been waiting for.

I offer EMDR in both weekly sessions and intensive formats — so we can find the approach that fits your life and your readiness. Let's talk about what's right for you.

EMDR empowers you to take your power back—so you can move forward with clarity, strength, and a renewed sense of peace.

What to Expect in EMDR Therapy

EMDR follows a structured 8-phase treatment model designed to support safety, clarity, and deep healing. Here’s a gentle overview of what the process looks like:

1. History Taking

We begin by exploring your history, understanding your symptoms, and assessing your readiness for EMDR. This helps us determine whether EMDR is the right approach for your healing.

2. Preparation

We build a strong therapeutic relationship and develop the grounding, resourcing, and regulation skills you’ll use throughout the EMDR process. My goal is to ensure you feel safe, supported, and confident before we move forward.

3. Assessment

Together, we identify your goals and create a personalized treatment plan. We also outline the target memories, experiences, or beliefs that continue to affect you today.

4. Desensitization

This is where reprocessing begins. Using bilateral stimulation, we work through the targeted memories in a safe, guided way so they become less distressing and emotionally charged.

5. Installation

We strengthen and “install” positive, adaptive beliefs to support new patterns of thinking, feeling, and responding in your daily life.

6. Body Scan

We check in with your body to ensure there are no lingering sensations or tension tied to the memory. This helps confirm that the trauma has been fully processed on a physiological level.

7. Closure

At the end of each session, we ensure you feel grounded and stabilized. If a memory has not been fully processed yet, you’ll use the skills and positive beliefs we’ve developed to stay regulated between sessions.

8. Reevaluation

In the next session, we review your progress, assess remaining symptoms, and determine whether additional targets need to be processed or if you’re ready to move toward completion.

This structured, supportive process allows your brain and body to heal at a pace that feels safe and empowering.
If you’re ready to begin your EMDR journey, I’m here to support you every step of the way.
